Key West, Florida
Changes in Latitude, Changes in Attitude:
Discovering the Keys to Innovation in Leadership Education
QUICK LINK TO CALL FOR PAPERS
Submission Deadline: March 2, 2012
Presentation proposals are being solicited under SIX tracks: Research Papers, Practice Papers, Roundtable Discussions, Poster Session, Symposium for Emerging Research, & Case Writing Competition.
1. Research Papers: Authors will share the results of qualitative &/or quantitative research efforts, or a review of the literature examining a specific leadership theory, context, or a prescribed leadership education strategy. Research proposals should reflect innovative & cutting-edge research, which has been completed at time of submission. Research paper proposals are limited to 12 pages, single-spaced with double spacing between paragraphs. This length is inclusive of tables & figures and excludes references. Suggested heading/sections would include:
· Introduction
· Literature Review
· Methods
· Findings
· Recommendations/Implications
· Conclusions
2. Practice Papers: This track explores an innovative leadership project, program, or practice, &/or creative teaching methodology related to leadership education. It is imperative that the foundation of the paper be linked to the body of knowledge supporting the field of leadership education. In order to be considered, practices identified in submissions must have been utilized before the proposal is submitted & the results of the practice experience should be shared within the paper. Practice paper proposals are limited to 12 pages including figures, & references. They should be single-spaced with double-spacing between paragraphs. If appropriate, up to 6 additional pages of handouts, scenarios, student instructions, or other materials supporting the teaching practice or project can be included as appendices. Suggested heading/sections are:
· Introduction (including learner objectives)
· Background (including connection to leadership or pedagogical theory/literature)
· Description of the practice (including lesson plan if applicable)
· Results/experience with project/lesson to date
· Recommendations/Implications
· Appendices
Exemplary practice papers will be considered for the Educator’s Showcase. This is an interactive, experiential learning session, where presenters demonstrate the practice for conference attendees & provide an explanation of the practice & learning outcomes within a 30-minute time allotment
3. Roundtables: Facilitators & field specific experts are asked to facilitate small, informal discussions about a topical area of leadership education. Roundtables allow attendees to discuss & share ideas with each other on a topic of shared interest with the aid of a facilitator. Examples of past roundtable discussions have included, but are not limited to accreditation of leadership programs, leadership in student affairs & transformational leadership learning opportunities. Roundtable proposals linked to the conference theme of innovative leadership education practice & scholarship are encouraged. Roundtable proposal submissions should include the following section headings & are limited to 2 pages, including tables, figures, and references. Submissions should be single spaced with double-spacing between paragraphs. Suggested headings/sections would include:
· Introduction (including learner/participant objectives)
· Background (including connection to leadership literature/theory)
· Means for Discussion/Interaction
· Foreseeable Implications of Discussion (including links to Conference theme)
· Recommended next steps / actions
4. Poster Session: This track provides an excellent forum for authors to present their work in an informal and interactive setting. Posters are ideal for presenting speculative, late-breaking results, or for giving an introduction to interesting, innovative work. Posters are intended to provide authors & participants with the ability to network with other like-minded leadership educators & engage in discussions about the work. Poster proposals are limited to 2 pages, single-spaced with double-spacing between paragraphs including tables, figures, and references. Suggested heading/sections are:
· Introduction
· Background (including connection to leadership or pedagogical literature/theory)
· Description of the program, research, or methodology
· Results to date
· Conclusions/Recommendations
5. Symposium for Emerging Research: This poster session is designed for new or developing undergraduate & graduate student researchers. This poster session provides undergraduate & graduate scholars an opportunity to share ideas for research efforts or lines of inquiry with leadership education scholars from interdisciplinary fields & receive feedback about the ideas. Proposals will be accepted from undergraduate & graduate students only. Proposals must follow the requirements for the Poster Session (previously listed) & include suggested headings/sections. The selection committee understands that there may be little or no results to date.
6. Case Writing Competition: This new session aspires to stimulate the creation & sharing of effective & innovative teaching cases that highlight leadership concepts. The competition is open to both teams & individuals, including both student and regular members of ALE. Top submissions will be selected for an interactive conference presentation within a 30 – 40 minute time allotment. In addition, the selected case writings will be shared with ALE members as part of a new case study database, & the authors will be invited to publish the case narratives with the Journal of Leadership Education.
