Dr. Greg Gifford is Dean and Senior Faculty at the United States Office of Personnel Management's Federal Executive Institute (FEI) located in Charlottesville, Virginia. He specializes in leadership development and provides leadership education, consulting, and coaching services to the highest ranking career civil servants in both the United States Government and foreign governments. Dr. Gifford is recognized as an expert in leadership development in the context of public service. He regularly speaks on Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), emotional intelligence, individual change and is considered one of the leading MBTI practitioners in the U.S. Government. His other interests include work motivation, team development, workplace diversity, and adult cognitive development.
In his role at FEI, Dr. Gifford serves as the Program Director for FEI’s flagship program--Leadership for a Democratic Society (LDS). The LDS program provides executive leadership development for career senior executives in the U.S. government as well as international governments. The LDS program is a four-week, residential program and has an annual enrollment between 700 and 800 executives. Dr. Gifford oversees the curriculum, program development, and execution. He also teaches in the program including sessions on leadership theory, MBTI, 360-degree feedback, transforming organizations, transforming individuals, and a variety of special topics.
Dr. Gifford came to FEI from the faculty of the University of Florida where he taught courses on interpersonal leadership development, team development, team leadership, work motivation and leadership theory. His publications include work on power in organizations, work motivation, positive political skills, workplace stigma and cross-cultural motivation. He has been an invited speak at the University of Virginia, The George Washington University and the National Taiwan University, the Chinese Training and Development Association of Taipei, the National Academy of Public Administration of Kazakhstan, and others. He has a number of professional certifications including MBTI Step II, EQi 2.0, Kirkpatrick Evaluation Methods, Subject-Object Interviewer, and Immunity to Change facilitator.
Dr. Gifford serves on the Board of Directors for the Association of Leadership Educators. In 2000, he was presented with the Gold Congressional Award and has received a number of accolades for his leadership education practices. He studied at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln earning a Ph.D. in Leadership Studies, an MS in Leadership Education and a BA in political science and communication studies.
