The University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) through the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources and its College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (CASNR) seeks applicants for a professor of practice in leadership. The assistant professor of practice position is a full time, 12-month appointment (50% teaching; 50% NHRI Leadership Mentoring) in the department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, & Communication (ALEC) with teaching and student program administration expectations.
The qualified candidate must have earned a Doctorate in Leadership Studies or a related discipline. Additionally, candidates must have: 1) expertise in the study of leadership theory and leadership development, 2) exceptional teaching skills, 3) demonstrated excellence in administration of student development programs, and 4) the ability to work effectively in a team setting.
Teaching: Teaching responsibilities will be commensurate with a 50% teaching appointment as determined by the CASNR Academic Appointment Guidelines and include teaching undergraduate leadership courses, and some graduate leadership courses, in both face-to-face and distance settings. Use of multimedia and electronic learning approaches in teaching will be encouraged. The individual may be asked to advise/mentor undergraduate Agricultural Education – Leadership Option students. Assist in the coordination of courses, graduate teaching assistants, undergraduate advising, or other duties as assigned. Specific course assignments may be changed over time based on Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communication need.
Additional Responsibilities of the Academic Appointment: Serve as the Program Director of NHRI Leadership Mentoring. Administer NHRI student recruitment, selection, placement, and mentoring experience. Coordinate NHRI student staff. Provide executive leadership for NHRI events and programs. Liaise with Lincoln Public Schools, NHRI parents, NHRRF Board of Directors, NHRI alumni, and other external constituents.
Serve as a member of the ALEC Leadership Faculty team. Attend ALEC faculty meetings, ALEC undergraduate curriculum committee meetings, Leadership Faculty meetings, and other departmental committees or meetings as appropriate. Participate in departmental planning, teaching outcomes assessment, and instructional improvement activities as assigned. Engage in scholarship of teaching and learning focused on leadership education (e.g. peer reviewed publications, conference presentations, textbooks, software, extended education lesson plans and modules). Participate in internal and external grant funding supporting ALEC leadership education. Participate in college and university level teaching, learning, and curriculum activities (e.g. peer evaluation, curriculum committees) as appropriate. In addition to the above-described duties, the individual will be expected to accept committee assignments, reporting responsibilities, and other special ad hoc assignments as requested at the administrative unit, college/division, institute, and/or university level.
