Call for Proposals PDFThe mission of the Association of Leadership Educators is to strengthen and sustain the expertise of professional leadership educators. Membership is open to any individual whose career interest is leadership education. ALE is a growing professional organization with membership throughout the United States and in several international contexts.
Proposals Due: Sunday, February 7, 2021 @ 11:59 p.m. CST
This deadline is intended to allow sufficient time for full review of proposals and timely notification of acceptance. We do not anticipate extending the deadline.
We encourage submissions in all context areas of leadership development, including but not limited to: higher education, student affairs, consulting, government/industry, community practice, and youth development/education. Presentation proposals are being solicited under 6 categories:
Note: At least one author must be an ALE member on all submissions.
Research Manuscripts - Share the results of a qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods study that contribute to the emerging leadership education and educational strategy discourse. Submissions will include a clear statement of research purpose, review and synthesis of related literature, clear explanation of methodology, discussion of findings and conclusions, and appropriate recommendations.
Practice/Application Manuscripts - Submissions will discuss a project, program, practice or tool that has been implemented. Application manuscripts should include a clear issue statement, a grounding of the pedagogy/andragogy in salient literature, description of the application, discussion of outcomes and implications, and recommendations.
Workshops - Provide the opportunity for a longer (90 minutes), more in-depth experienceand active participation around an innovative educational practice, teaching and learning tool, or research method.
Practice and Research Posters - Professional quality posters outlining either innovativepractice or research relevant to the leadership education field from undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, or administration.
Discussions - Aspire to facilitate dialogue by field-specific expertsabout topical area of leadership education.
Idea Incubator Roundtable - Provide the opportunity for discussion of nascent research or program ideas to facilitate collaboration on shared interests and strengthening of future projects. Similar proposals will be grouped together to further discussion.
Panels - Panel chairs will bring together experts in an area of work for facilitated discussion and question and answer. Panels should include 4-6 people and will have 90 minutes. Proposals must include an issue statement, grounding in salient leadership education literature, and guiding questions.
Reviews: All submissions will be subject to a double blind review process.Application/Practice and Research manuscripts will be reviewed by the expert reviewers at The Journal of Leadership Education. This can be an excellent opportunity for authors to prepare for future submissions to JOLE. A committee of ALE members who are scholars and practitioners will review all other categories of submissions as has been done in previous years. Submission of any manuscript does not guarantee or represent acceptance. ALE reserves the right to reject poor quality or untimely material, whether solicited or otherwise, at any time during the submission/review process.

Proposals should be prepared in Word (.doc or .docx) format.
All proposals must be blinded on submission, which means that no identifying information should appear in the document or in the filename. Submissions that do not comply will not be sent out for review.
Please save files as: Type__ALE21 (e.g. Roundtable__ALE21.doc or Workshop__ALE21.docx)
Use Times New Roman 12‐pt font
Set all margins at 1”
Single-space the proposal but double-space between paragraphs, headings and text, tables, etc.
Tables and figures should be inserted into the manuscript/proposal of the text at or near first mention of the table or figure in the manuscript/proposal
Tables should be inserted ONLY using the table format in Word. ALL TABLES must be smaller than ONE PAGE.
All figures MUST be imported into your word file as a .jpg file with a minimum resolution of 400 dpi, Use the same typeface (Times New Roman) for all figures. Use symbol font for Greek letters. Acceptable formats for figures are: .jpeg or .png
Center and bold section headings
Word limitations are noted in the details for each proposal track. Proposals exceeding the word limitations will not be accepted.
Use the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (7th edition) for all references and citations.
Please note that authors will need to identify a target audience for their proposal at the time of submission.
Online Proposal Submission - Due Sunday, February 7th @ 11:59pm CST Proposals should be submitted electronically via the Qualtrics form:https://ncsu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bw2oQb2HLYjvcnXPlease provide a response to all items in the online submission, including a short abstract and all author contact information. Upon successful submission of the proposal, you will receive a confirmation message.
- Acceptance notifications will be made on or about April 7, 2021.
- Authors will receive online confirmation that the submission was received after completing the online submission process via the Qualtrics Form.
- At least one author must register for and attend the conference by May 7, 2021.
