Fort Hays State University invites applicants for a full-time, non-tenure-track Assistant Professor of Leadership Programs in the School of Criminal Justice, Leadership, and Sociology.
This position is a full-time, on-campus, non-tenure track, 9-month faculty assignment (60% teaching; 20% research; 20% service) in the Leadership Program within the School of Criminal Justice, Leadership, and Sociology at Fort Hays State University.
- A terminal degree from a regionally-accredited institution in leadership, communication, industrial/organizational psychology, organizational behavior, or a closely related field is required with at least 18 graduate credit hours in the leadership discipline or subfield of which he or she teaches.
- The successful candidate must possess relevant teaching experience.
- Experience in developing and teaching online courses.
- Experience in teaching graduate level courses, especially Organizational Leadership related courses.
- Experience in advising and mentoring adult professional students.
- Experience chairing or serving on graduate thesis or culminating experience committees.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Commitment to continuous quality improvement.
Rank: Instructor or Assistant Professor. This position is eligible for promotion in the future upon meeting promotion criteria.

This is a full time, non-tenure track position reporting to the Chair of the Leadership Program within the School of Criminal Justice, Leadership, and Sociology. This position will primarily be teaching online courses within an MPS concentration in Organizational Leadership, but may also instruct courses on-campus and/or at the undergraduate level.
Responsibilities include teaching primarily graduate leadership studies courses within the Master of Professional Studies (MPS) in Organizational Leadership program (e.g. Organizational Systems; Leadership Theory; Organizational Intervention Strategies), and within a new MS in Global Strategic Leadership. The in-load teaching expectation for this position is 12 credit-hours per semester each fall and spring, with no summer teaching required. The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with other faculty members in the department on course design and revision, learning assurance, and curriculum management of the graduate programs. The candidate may also occasionally teach courses at the undergraduate level, and may also be asked to teach face-to-face courses on-campus. Specific course assignments will be developed in consultation with the chair and other department faculty and depending on the nature of the candidate’s appointment and academic background. Advising responsibilities are considered a component of teaching and will include graduate students. Teaching experience related to global leadership, intercultural competence, building collaborative capacity in cross-sector sustainability partnerships, is desirable but not mandatory.
A wide range of intellectual contributions are valued within the department (discipline-based research, applied research, pedagogical research and scholarship of engagement). Research expectations are consistent with FHSU’s focus as a teaching institution. The candidate will be expected to develop a scholarly research stream, and is encouraged to align this research with teaching and service obligations. The successful candidate will be supported in her/her research through funding opportunities and is encouraged to engage in collaborative scholarly work with peers.
Committee and other service work at the department and university level is required. Service to the profession is encouraged.
