Guiding the Leaders of Tomorrow

About ALE

Our Mission:

The mission of the Association of Leadership Educators, Inc., is to strengthen and sustain the expertise of professional leadership educators.

Our Vision:

The Association of Leadership Educators' vision is to set the standard for Leadership Education. ALE will be the leading resource for the exchange and development of quality ideas, scholarship, and practice that impacts the field of Leadership Education. ALE establishes the bridge between research and practice in Leadership Education through an inclusive and engaging community of dynamic leadership educators, committed to consistently growing, thriving, and advancing the field of Leadership Education.

Our Values:

The Association of Leadership Educators is the intersection for teaching, learning, research, facilitation, and development of leadership education. Our values are aspirational and descriptive. We welcome leaders whose work and interests align with our mission and values to connect with our community dedicated to the practice and scholarship of leadership education.

At the heart of our organization are the following core values:

  • Supportive and Inclusive Community: We strive to create a sense of belonging and connection among our members. We believe in a welcoming and inclusive environment where all individuals feel valued, heard, and respected.

  • Collaboration: We facilitate collaboration and connections within our organization and across other organizations that share our mission to support and advance the work of leadership educators. Working together builds relationships, shares knowledge, and enhances our collective impact to promote meaningful change.

  • Curiosity: We encourage curiosity about new ways of exploring leadership education and the exploration of familiar leadership practices through new lenses. We believe curiosity can lead to innovation and growth.

  • Rigor: We hold ourselves to the highest standards of academic and professional rigor, to ensure our work is evidence-based, relevant, and impactful.

Our Context:

Building upon decades of experience, the Association of Leadership Educators embraces a wide variety of leadership educators. If you teach in the classroom, are affiliated with youth development organizations, do private consulting, work in student affairs, practice in the area of community development, or train the military, you may find ALE to be a great means of expanding your networks and learning more about the field of leadership education. ALE emphasizes the link between theory and practice, and the focus makes the association appealing to both those inside and outside academia.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion:

The Association of Leadership Educators believes that leadership can be learned and practiced by anyone. Therefore, ALE should be a place for leadership learners and educators, regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, religious belief, sexual orientation, age, class, ability status, political ideology, socio-economic status, marital status, veteran status, gender, and gender expression. We believe that a diverse membership is best represented by a diverse board of directors, that diverse practitioners and scholars can be found in a variety of settings, and that the work of diversity, equity, and inclusion intersects with the work of leadership education.

In 2005, ALE was granted 501(c)(3) non-profit organization status.
